On the 31st of December 1985, the much-loved Springbok Radio ceased transmission. The format was deemed antiquated and no longer relevant.
However many, many people enjoyed the radio theatre, talk shows, stories and music shows, and were extremely sad to see it go. The real hardcore fans never let go of their beloved station's many and varied showsrand now the Springbok Radio Preservation Society of SA will begin offering an online feed, styled on the original format as of the 1st July 2008. They promise old favourites like 'Squad Cars', 'The Men From The Ministry' and many others, they have preserved and digitised over the past 21 years. They claim to have over 20,000 programmes archived, so there should never be a shortage of entertainment.
Interestingly, much of the material has been taken from one, now deceased, individual who recorded, reel-to-reel, years of Springbok Radio transmissions for himself to listen to when he retired. Thanks to him, we will now be able relive some truely golden moments of radio.
I have long been an 'Old Time Radio' enthusiast, and can't wait to give this a listen.

They already have some programming available to preview, go and fetch some memories. But before you run off to tell mom, dad, granny and grandad, make sure you explain to them that this will eat into their monthly bandwidth allocation!
