Early days, but all things have to start somewhere. My feeling is "baby start" Unbuntu Linux" and it has hit the starting blocks. Also Amazon ( who up to now set the EC2 standard). Well - really I have no idea what all this about but I will learn.

"Electricity started as a innovation (idea), then the light bulb, then came the small generators and distribution systems (New York was one of first?), Then large power plants all tied together in grids, and here we are about 50 years later and we expect electricity and pay a small utility charge for what we use.

So, it seems this will be the path of Cloud Computing. (maybe a different name if future). Nothing will stop this and we will see companies (first) and individuals (later) as using this technology as a utility - like electricity today.

Individuals will have a terminal at home, with small access program to login to the cloud (with their credit card): The operating system, all software, and storage you need will be in the cloud.

You will pay, like a utility, for time and resources used.

Egypt ISP - where is Soficom ADSL provider gone?

Friend (see comments section with his story still on going) had ADSL connection through Soficom and one day the connection did not work - and next day and so on. Went to their office in Digla and except for a notice written in Arabic, office was no longer working. Heard a rumor they were bought out by someone. Here is the kicker. To change providers you need a cancellation notice from ISP you were using. Catch 22 - how do you get a cancellation notice from a company not existing. Maybe company went down the pipe as Etisalat is buying up the ISP business. Etisalat Misr acquired 2 Internet companies “Nile Online” & “Egynet”.(reported Oct 2008)
