Further to my previous post on re-license you car in Egypt - see a personal experience, from a friend, below, about how bureaucracy has taken over. This has to do with engine capacities of two liters and above, fees became two percent of a vehicle’s value with a minimum of LE 1,000.
The story:-
In early May I went to Attaba Sq to license my 3.9L Landrover Discovery. As you know the fees were increased on 1st May to help pay for the 30% pay rise for public employees. I asked to get a 2 year license and was told that they didn't know the new rates yet as they hadn't been ratified by Parliament. The deal was that I pay for 2 years at the old rate but only get a licence valid for 3 months, the theory being that they would know the new rates in 3 months, and I would then pay the difference between the old rate and the new rate.
Ok, so yesterday I go downtown to Attaba Sq to find that they still didn't know the new rate, surprise surprise, for the small fee of 7.50 LE was to be given another 3 month licence, but after a little discussion they agreed to give me a 9 month license, so by the time I go back I will have used a total of 1 year of my 2 years already paid, In'Shallah they will have the new rates by then.
Re your comment on your blog about ADSL lines, I went to the TE Data website and entered my office number, 25217906, it says I can get ADSL but I know I can't as we've got fibre optic cables here so you should warn people that their website isn't always accurate
