NOISE - beware the renter!!!

Noise, Noise then more Noise - and you will lose sleep, lose your cool, marital affairs will go down hill and you will enter the rage syndrome!

This is a follow-up post of important item I missed on previous post!

OK here is scenario- you are renting a flat - and went with agent(s) and looked at many. You made your choice and agreed the landlord will fix some things etc. etc. and you moved in.
First read this post about checking all the things that should work. See first hand experience from fellow poster Egyptian Sanks- link.

By now you will have been exposed to mosque(s) yelling, car horns blaring, and maybe dogs barking all night. But, how about the construction noise? Did you look to see if around your building a new building was being built or renovated? Were you in the building when others who had bought a new flat, in same building, were breaking the walls to fix it up? Then beware the constant pounding day and night will drive you crazy, you will yell first at yourself, and then family, and then in rage confront the pounders - to little avail! And, if your home during day time, make sure there is no nursery in ear shot with kids screaming all morning in their yard. these nursery if kindergartens are sprouting up everywhere!

My only suggestion is to visit your candidate rental property many times and besides checking out all warnings from my first post, and others warning, see what noise is going on. It is not criminal to knock on other doors, and ask questions about the building your flat is in. The agent of course will not be helpful.

But you cannot guard against all circumstances. I own a few flats and beside me the old nice woman died (god bless her) and family took over and started adding 2 floors to their new found free building. Well 2 1/2 years later they have almost finished. Pounding day and night (but we got them to stop the night pounding) and during Ramadan they tried to work all night. Well my neighbors filed many complaints (I knew it was fruitless) with Police, but that only delayed the inevitable. A little money here and there and they might come and arrest the complainers.

In my other place, I had clients for 6 years and we were all happy. Till, next door they started a new building. Not only the noise, but dropping bricks and cement on our drive / walkway which could really injure people. No matter what we did, the contractor did not change his ways. I encouraged my tenants to move, and actually helped them. Did I get any recompense from asshole next door. NO- but I also have my ways to cause grief. So, when he finished, and had tenants, I started on my place at noisy pace. That was not answer but I felt better.

BEWARE THE NOISE FACTOR - no amount of rage management will help!!!
