SA Music Downloads, free & legal

Never has there been a better showcase for SA music. Free music downloads are a great way to introduce potential fans to new bands. Barney Simon and the guys from powerzone.co.za have not only figured this out, but they have clearly managed to convince some serious players in the SA music industry of this reality.
You can go to www.powerzone.co.za and download singles from the likes of The Parlotones, The Finkelsteins, Evolver, Fevertree & Jo Day, to name just a few.
Quality local music ... for free.

Click here to go directly to the downloads page.

Radio 2000 has had its critics of late, for their perceived capitulation to the sugar pop music machine, however it is still the place where you are going to find the highest percentage of good local SA rock. Now you can go online and listen from anywhere in the world, they are finally streaming there broadcast. Those of you not in SA here are my picks (SA Times) :
  • The Rise and Rock (A little weak, but you are guaranteed a couple of gems every now and again) - 6am to 9am Weekdays
  • The Lucky Packet (Michelle Constant) -12pm to 3pm Weekdays
  • SA Music Show (Barney Simon) - 8pm to 11pm Tuesdays
  • Rock of Ages (Benjy Mudie) - 8pm to 12am Thursdays
  • The MAD Show (Doug Anderson) - 12pm to 2pm Saturdays

Radio 2000 anti-playlist Petition Started

It seems that I am not the only one who has noticed that the Radio 2000 rise and rock show has started losing it's 'rock' roots.

Steven Haywood has started a petition against this move @ PetitionOnline.com. It reads :

To: Radio 2000

Radio 2000 management have imposed a playlist on the Ray White morning show (Rise and Rock show).
Previously, this show was a haven for all those rock fans to whom no other radio station caters. Now they play the likes of Amy Winehouse (!!!!)

Please, Radio 2000, leave the commercial nonsense to the other stations.

We the undersigned respectfully request removal of the playlist restrictions and a return to the good old days.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

If you feel as strongly as he does sign the petition by clicking here.

A bit of comedy to warm you from inside

It was just 6 degrees traveling into work today! For Cape Town, that's bloody cold, especially when it's combined with rain. There have even been reports of snow on some of our surrounding peaks. Winter is well and truly here.
Of course this meant exaggerated morning peak traffic. However, Radio 2000 (if you appreciate good rock and roll you should be listening to this station btw) made the journey a whole lot more enjoyable by replaying this great piece of comedy by request. Suddenly the traffic didn't seem to bother me, and I found myself laughing out loud.

Enjoy!!
